NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. — A hiker was rescued after falling off a cliff Saturday along Wintechog Hill Road in North Stonington , according to Connecticut State Police.

The man was first reported to have fallen before noon, but he was not extricated for a number of hours.

Around 3:55 p.m., state police confirmed that the hiker was rescued and transported to an area hospital via LifeStar helicopter. State police have not yet released details on the severity of the man's injuries.

Officers from Troop E and North Stonington fire officials were assisted by EMS personnel from Ledyard, Mashantucket, Gales Ferry, Pawcatuck, Old Mystic, Submarine Base, Mohegan Tribal, Mystic and Colchester, according to Norwich fire officials.

It is unclear how the hiker fell at this time.
