Police were deployed to Bolton town centre this evening following reports of disturbances involving up to 60 individuals. Officers from the Tactical Aid Unit, trained to handle riots, were seen near the McDonald's on Knowsley Street. In response to the situation, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) enforced a dispersal order in the area, granting them the authority to remove individuals suspected of participating in the disorder or face arrest.
The 'section 34' dispersal order will remain in effect until 2am on Sunday, 16 November. GMP stated that this action was taken after receiving multiple reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal activities linked to a group in the Market Place area. A spokesperson for GMP remarked, "The order, which is in place until approximately 2am tomorrow, will allow us to tackle these issues with an emphasis on the safety of the wider public in this area."
Inspector Nick White from GMP's Bolton division commented on the situation, saying, "The reported behaviour of those involved, putting members of the public at risk, will not be tolerated. Bolton should be a safe place for all those who wish to visit to make use of facilities within the town centre. You can expect to see an increased visible presence, and anyone with concerns should speak to officers on the ground."
In a separate incident, an easyJet flight from Paris to Edinburgh was forced to declare an emergency. Flight EZY3242 took off from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport shortly after 5pm on Friday and landed in Edinburgh just before 6.30pm. During the descent, the pilot issued a 7700 code, indicating a general emergency on board. Paramedics were on standby upon the flight's arrival.
An easyJet spokesperson confirmed, "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY3242 from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Edinburgh on 14 November was met by paramedics due to a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance. The well-being of our passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority and our crew are trained to evaluate and respond to medical situations onboard."
Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding public safety and emergency responses in the region.
