The Home Secretary is set to end Britain’s “golden ticket” for asylum seekers , forcing people who have come to the UK illegally to wait 20 years before they can apply for permanent settlement.

Under plans set to be unveiled by Shabana Mahmood on Monday, refugee status in the UK will also be made temporary, meaning those who have been granted asylum will be removed as soon as their home countries are deemed safe.
