JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - One person was taken to UAB Hospital Saturday after they were shot during an attempted robbery in Jefferson County.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 3200 block of Mulga Loop Road at 6:30 a.m. to investigate a 911 call.

When deputies arrived, they learned that a 33-year-old man had attempted to rob the residents of the home. Officials say a shot was fired and the suspect was struck before he left the scene and ran into a wooded area.

A search began, but authorities were unable to locate the suspect.
