TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
The No. 11 Sooners survived a trip to Tuscaloosa and kept their path to the playoffs open, stunning No. 4 Alabama 23-21 at home Saturday. It was the Tide's first home loss in 17 games and the first under Kalen DeBoer.
While it wasn’t a blowout like last year’s letdown in Norman, and it doesn't derail the Tide’s own CFP chances, it may end up being the bullet that takes them out of the SEC title game in Atlanta.
Oklahoma was up 10-0 after the first, taking an early lead after Ty Sandell drilled a 25-yard field goal. The Sooners' defense followed it up in style after a poor pass from Ty Simpson set up Eli Bowen for an 87-yard run back to the house. Alabama outgained Oklahoma 68–42, but the pick-six defined the quarter.
The second quarter saw the Tide spring to life wit
