WACO, Texas (KWTX) - For the first time in program history, the Clifton Lady Cubs are headed to the volleyball state championship after defeating defending state champion Stockdale in the semifinals.
Entering Saturday, Clifton had won 20 matches in a row, with their last loss dating back to August 30.
In their first state semifinal appearance since 1995, Clifton was able to best Stockdale 3-2, winning the final fifth set 19-17 and securing the victory on a Stockdale net violation.
‘We knew it as going to be tough coming in," said Clifton head volleyball coach Joy Holzmann. “They’re the defending state champions, but we matched up (with them) pretty well. My kids have played hard all year and had gone through some adversity early on, and I think that’s kind of what kept us in that match
