SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP – Inside of a minute remained in Saturday’s PIAA Class 2A field hockey championship game and the faithful Palmyra fan base in attendance at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field were loudly anticipating a state championship victory celebration with the Cougars holding a slim one goal lead over Warwick.
Suddenly, almost out of nowhere, the ball was in the scoring circle and heading precariously towards the Cougars’ cage. Goalkeeper Abby Bennett made the final save of her varsity career at that moment, the ball was cleared to the far sideline, and the celebration began in earnest as the final horn sounded.
