Syracuse, N.Y. — Law enforcement agencies across Onondaga County will increase DWI patrols through the holiday season, officials announced Saturday during the 42nd annual Donald H. Barrett “Lights On” Caravan.
The increased enforcement will run from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 and again from Dec. 13 to Jan. 1 as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Officials said the added patrols are meant to curb impaired driving during one of the highest-risk times of the year, according to the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board.
The morning began at 10:30 a.m. with first responders, police and fire crews driving through the city and county streets with their lights on to honor victims of impaired driving.
