BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Following Veterans Day this week, the Downeast Family YMCA helped give back to those who served with the return of a yearly event.
The 12th annual Veterans’ Remembrance “4 Miler” took place outside the Downeast Family YMCA Saturday, with runners and walkers crossing through Pond Avenue and Shore Road.
Pre registration was $20, while veterans with military ID could enter for free.
Organizer Robin Clarke has coordinated the event for all 12 years, originally creating the event to fill a void for veterans in Ellsworth by giving them a chance to be recognized. “They’re so thankful for any show of remembrance and respect so it encouraged me to create this race to honor veterans that i know and veterans that are in this community,” said Clarke.
