The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an alert about an illness that is "nearly twice as contagious" as the common cold.

In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter , health officials are calling on parents and carers to ensure their children are up to date with all routine childhood vaccinations, including polio and measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) jabs.

The warning follows a drop in MMR vaccination uptake in recent years.

Since January, there have been 811 laboratory confirmed measles cases in England, according to the latest figures.

The majority of these cases were in children aged 10 years and under, although around 25% were in young people and adults aged 15 years and over.
