SUITLAND, Md. — The last two months have been challenging for a lot of families in the DMV — fortunately, a group called Bridging the Gap is working to help make sure they can have a traditional Thanksgiving.
Hundreds of people showed up at Suitland High School Saturday, where members of local motorcycle and social clubs gave away turkeys, chickens and other items.
“This year is special. It's a tough time. The DMV community — we've had a lot of impacts recently to the financial situations of our residents -- this year is special, definitely special," said one organizer, who only identified himself as "Q."
The group improved on last year’s 1,000 turkeys by giving away 1,200 this year. And they’re hoping to give away more next year.
