The flashpoint was Mexico City, where a faction of hooded demonstrators tore down sections of the security fencing around the National Palace, the residence of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Riot police responded with tear gas, and authorities confirmed significant injuries: 100 officers hurt, 40 of them seriously enough to require hospital care, along with 20 civilians wounded. In addition, 20 protesters were arrested, and another 20 were referred on administrative grounds.
