Steinbach City Council has approved a change to its mobile food vendor policy, allowing businesses to bring in a food truck for a one-time special event as long as no cash transactions take place at the truck.

Mayor Earl Funk says the decision responds to requests from local businesses that want to offer food during anniversary sales, grand openings and similar promotions.

"What has actually been coming across my desk and some requests we've had is businesses to have special events, whether it be anniversary, sales or markets or just having grand openings, but to be able to have them catered by a food truck."

Food must be fully paid for by the business

Under the new provision, food trucks may serve customers at a private event on the condition that guests are not purchasing food direct
