Around three-quarters of all state pensioners are eligible to receive the Winter Fuel Payment in the coming months, according to the Government. Payments from the Department for Work and Pensions will be made automatically from now until the end of December.
Those eligible for the payments will get between £100 and £300, dependning on whether they live as a couple, if they are entitled to other benefits and whether or not they live in a care home.
If pensioners with an income of over £35,000 received the Winter Fuel Payment, they may need to repay it later – either automatically through their tax code from April 2026 or their tax return for 2025/26. They do not need to do anything as HMRC will be in touch, the ECHO reports .
