Reports of people being attacked by a large group of youths who gathered in Bolton town centre led to officers being granted increased powers, it has been confirmed.

Around 60 people gathered in and around the Market Place area, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said last night.

A large number of police, including riot-trained Tactical Aid Unit officers, were seen parked outside the McDonald's restaurant on Knowsley Street, with officers seen going in and out.

The force said they received a 'number of reports of anti-social behaviour and criminality' linked to the group.
