Retailers are rewriting their expansion playbook as large-format stores emerge as the next big lever for growth. After years of prioritising compact, high-efficiency outlets, brands like Tanishq, Lifestyle and Zudio are now expanding their store sizes to improve product discovery, boost basket value and deepen category penetration.
The pivot is clear: more space means more products for customers to walk out with.
Lifestyle, the fashion and beauty retailer under Landmark Group, is scaling up its store formats, especially in metro markets. The company recently reopened its renovated Phoenix Marketcity, Whitefield store in Bengaluru, now spread across 52,000 sq ft. The company has an average store size of 40,000–45,000 sq ft in metros, while in smaller towns it is around 20,000–25,000 sq ft
