Alabama Sen. Katie Britt said a trip home for her 25th high school reunion underlined the looming perils for working Alabamians if the government shutdown continued.
Britt spoke to Todd Stacy on “Capital Journal” about the experience after receiving accolades for her rol e in bringing the shutdown - the longest in the nation’s history - to an end.
The Senate approved a resolution Monday to end the shutdown by a 60-40 vote, the minimum needed to overcome the filibuster that led to the standoff. The House also approved the measure, which was eventually signed by President Donald Trump.
Britt said she saw several former classmates at the reunion who were affected by the shutdown - either furloughed from their jobs or not receiving pay.
