U.S. Sen. Katie Britt said Sunday that Democrats were “selfish” during the 43-day government shutdown.

Democrats “demanded” people go without a paycheck “so they could score political points” during the shutdown, “yet they were still taking one themselves,” Britt told Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“It was selfish and centered on all of the wrong things,” Britt said.

Members of Congress, unlike most federal employees, still get paid during shutdowns. While some members said they would donate their paycheck, ABC News reported that some Democrats planned to draw their regular salary .

Britt was among Republican and Democratic members who said she would not accept her pay during the shutdown.
