A 38-year-old man was shot and wounded on a Bronx street by a stranger with a cane who asked him a question and then opened fire when the victim turned away to talk to someone else, police said Sunday.

The bearded and bespectacled shooter approached the victim on University Ave. near Featherbed Lane in Morris Heights and asked him a question about 8:45 p.m. Nov. 8 , cops said. After the victim turned away to talk to someone else, the gunman opened fire, striking the victim multiple times all over his body, police said.

Medics rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical but stable condition.

The shooter ran off east on Featherbed Lane and hung a quick right onto Nelson Ave. to escape, police said.

Cops released surveillance footage of the suspect and are asking the public
