HOUSTON – Police were searching for a person who allegedly stole construction equipment and caused a deadly crash in the Willowbrook area.

Police said a backhoe was stolen from a nearby construction site.

A person was driving it on State Highway 249 near Greens Road just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

A motorcyclist crashed into the back of the backhoe and died at the scene, police said.

The person driving it ran off.

“The backhoe continued off into the ditch area, in the grassy area, and was abandoned by who we believed to be the suspect who was driving it,” said Sgt. Michael Barrow.
