Hamtramck — The Archdiocese of Detroit announced this weekend that it would undergo a mass restructuring involving the closing of some of its parish buildings.

Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger announced to Detroit's Catholic community that church-goers would see the Archdiocese enter a two-year restructuring process as a result of a dwindling number of Mass-attending Catholics.

In the announcement, the archbishop, while in his first year of leadership , said it currently cannot maintain its 200 parish buildings and is working to "right-size and reallocate personal and financial resources."
