LANSING, MI — A Michigan State University professor and two of the university’s trustees have settled a federal lawsuit, according to court records.
The settlement between Professor Jack Lipton and Trustees Rema Vassar and Dennis Denno was reached following a voluntary facilitative mediation session on Nov. 11, records filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan show.
Details surrounding the settlement were not available. Efforts Sunday to reach attorneys for either side were unsuccessful.
Lipton, who chaired the university’s Faculty Senate at the time, called for Vassar and Denno’s resignation during a Board of Trustees meeting in October 2023. Lipton said the complaints of ethical violations leveled against Vassar were credible.
