Former Gillette resident Dr. Dean Kohrs angered a number of community residents recently when he spoke at a Buffalo symposium on what he termed the “Gillette Syndrome.” It was charged that Kohrs, former director at the city’s mental health center, gave Gillette a black eye throughout the state by his comments, which were carried in the Casper and Sheridan daily newspapers. Dr. Kohrs defined the “Gillette Syndrome” as a “social system of higher rewards and greater pains” that accompany an industrial boom. “It includes the three A’s — alcohol, accidents and absenteeism, as well as the three D’s — divorce, delinquency and depression.” He told of a young housewife who snaps at her husband when he returns home from a 16-hour work shift.
