MACON, Ga. — Local volunteers teamed up on Saturday to help make some west Macon neighborhoods cleaner and greener.
District 8 Commissioner Donice Bryant and “Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful” led cleanup teams across five neighborhoods in Macon.
The two-hour event targeted litter, illegal dumps, and debris.
Volunteers worked around Southwest High, Ballard Hudson Middle, Ingram Pye Elementary, Matilda Hartley Elementary, and Southfield Elementary picking up trash and improving common areas.
Group leaders say it’s all in an effort to build community pride and engage young people to care for their streets and the community around them.
"Care about your community," a volunteer said. "You see trash out, pick it up, put it in a trash bag and put it out."
