Motorists who drive on Schoenherr Road in Shelby Township had better get used to navigating between orange construction barrels.
The Macomb County Department of Roads plans to reconstruct and widen Schoenherr between 23 Mile and 26 Mile roads. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027.
“The proposed project is anticipated to address traffic congestion, safety concerns and deteriorating road and bridge conditions,” road department officials said in publicity materials.
County roads officials will host a community open house on Tuesday to provide more information on the construction to the public.
The project includes:
Widening the road from two to three lanes between 23 Mile and 26 Mile with added right turn lanes at specific locations for high volume entrances
