MONROE CITY, Mo. – Monroe City overwhelmed visiting Brookfield with 508 yards of total offense in an overwhelming 62-22 win on Friday night in the friendly confines of Lankford Field to take the Class 2 District 7 title.

The Panthers will face off with Mid-Buchanan in the Class 2 quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Monroe City.

Monroe City, which entered the game with a 9-1 record, did not get off to a fast start as visiting Bulldogs, who some media observers in the region thought could upend the Panthers.

Brookfield won the toss and elected to receive. Monroe City was penalized five yards for illegal motion before a second a had ticked off the clock and an out-of-bounds kick gave the Bulldogs the ball at their own 46.
