Firefighters have been called to a fire which broke out at a house on a residential street in Ashford.

Two fire engines, armed with jet hoses and breathing apparatuses, rushed to the home to extinguish a fire in The Street on Sunday, November 16.

The two crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames in a kitchen at a residential address on the street. There were no reported injuries.

The blaze sparked emergency crews to issued a public plea, with the fire believed to have ignited thanks to a washing machine.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued the reminder to ensure washing machines are not left in standby mode for long periods after use and to never run the machine overnight or when out of the house.
