The Giants appeased some fans last week when they fired head coach Brian Daboll , but they decided to hold onto defensive coordinator Shane Bowen despite an outcry for his dismissal.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY , one of the reasons the Giants didn’t fire Bowen with Daboll is that they wanted interim head coach Mike Kafka to make staffing decisions.
“He was the OC before,” Hughes posted to X on Sunday. “He needed to familiarize himself with defensive staff, then decide if a change needed to be made and who would replace Bowen.”
The Giants entered their Week 11 game with one of the league’s worst defenses — allowing 383 yards against (27th) and 27.3 points per game (27th).
While speaking to the media on Thursday, Bowen took responsibility for the unit’s poor performance.
