Councils and residents in 10 Perth locations — including the wealthy areas of Cottesloe and Swanbourne — will be powerless to stop new high-rise housing developments in their areas under new planning reforms to be rolled out by the State Government next year.
Planning Minister John Carey will on Sunday announce moves to create more housing within a 800-metre radius of 10 train stations — at Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Swanbourne, Ballajura, Bassendean, Oats Street, Claisebrook, Glendalough, Morley and Redcliffe — by encouraging developers into the areas.
The State Government believes the train station precincts have the ability to be developed for an additional 35,000 homes — and more would be declared in future.
This will be done through rezonings and new density and height restrictions wi
