A road rage incident on the New South Wales Mid North Coast has left two men seriously injured and a teenage boy hospitalized. A 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with the event that occurred on Sunday afternoon near Forster.
According to police, the incident began around 5 p.m. when two men and a 15-year-old boy were driving north on The Lakes Way in Darawank. They reportedly got into an argument with the driver of a ute, who was also heading north. Police allege that the ute driver intentionally rammed the sedan, prompting the two men to exit their vehicle.
Once outside, the men were allegedly run over by the ute. The teenage boy attempted to assist them but was reportedly punched in the face by the ute driver.
A 56-year-old man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, suffering from pelvic fractures and head injuries. He is currently in serious but stable condition. A 39-year-old man is being treated at Port Macquarie Base Hospital for spinal and facial injuries, also in serious but stable condition. The 15-year-old boy is receiving treatment for facial injuries at the same hospital.
The driver of the ute, a man from Diamond Beach, has been arrested and charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court later today.
Witness Freyja Cornish described the scene, stating she was parked about 150 meters from the crash. "He was in the car and looked a bit stressed and shocked and he still had the car running until the police came," she said.
The police investigation caused traffic delays on The Lakes Way for approximately seven hours as they worked at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
