LEHIGHTON, Pa. — On Sunday, several EMS companies in Carbon County received a helping hand. The Council of Governments distributed a total of $7,000 to stations in Lehighton, Penn Forest, Jim Thorpe, and Summit Hill on Sunday afternoon.
This comes after first responders say calls for help are going out, but the money to keep them on the road is coming in sparsely.
Steve Wuttke, the operations chief of Lake Harmony Rescue Squad ambulance, said, "A lot of time, people will get their checks in the mail from the insurance company, and they'll cash them, and they'll either make a payment plan with the billing company or they won't pay it at all."
First responders say the funds allocated will help draw attention to the problems facing first responders in Carbon County and across Pennsylvani
