The prime minister has slapped down Türkiye's push to co-host next year's COP climate meeting as frustration builds in government ranks over the ongoing diplomatic stand-off.

Anthony Albanese said last week that Türkiye's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan had written back to him "maintaining" his country's position on the landmark climate gathering, warning that if no resolution could be found it would have to revert to UNFCCC headquarters in Bonn.

This morning Reuters reported that Mr Erdogan used that letter to once again champion the idea of a COP "co-presidency", which would include sharing hosting duties for high-level meetings, and jointly steering negotiations.
