SOUTHINGTON — A man died at a hospital after being shot by law enforcement officers following a 911 call around 5 p.m. Friday about him waving a firearm while standing on the road, according to a Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Major Douglas Bobovnyik issued the release Saturday morning, but the identity of the man had not been released as of press time Sunday.

When officers arrived in the 1300 block of state Route 534, they approached the armed suspect. Shots were fired, and the man was taken to University Hospital- Portage Medical Center, where he later died, the release states.

Multiple agencies, including the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and Braceville Police Department, responded to the 911 call. It is unknown which department fired the shots that killed the man.
