The body of a 7-year-old Canadian girl was recovered from the ocean Sunday, two days after her father drowned while trying to rescue her as she was swept away by a massive wave at a Big Sur beach, authorities said.
The girl was struck and swept from the shoreline by a 15- to 20-foot wave on Friday, Nov. 14, while visiting Garrapata State Beach with her family, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
The girl's father, identified as 39-year-old Yuji Hu of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, "entered the water in an effort to save (his daughter)," the agency said in a written statement . But he, too, was overcome by the water.
