A portion of Varner Road near Interstate 10 remained closed Sunday because of a risk of mudslides, one day after one immobilized several vehicles and led police to have to evacuate more than 30 people there.

The agency began receiving several reports of it at about 3:15 p.m., when heavy rain was falling in the area.
