There's been a surge in violence against women in the West Midlands which has left a trail of wrecked lives, broken families and instilled an overhanging feeling of fear.

All too often we hear of a new assault, verbal abuse, stabbing, beating, rape and in the worst cases, murder.

One facet to this age-old misogyny is some women are preyed upon because of their skin colour or religious appearance.

Sukhvinder Kaur, from Wolverhampton-based Sikh Women’s Aid, said a spate of racially aggravated crimes have left Asian females scared in a way not seen since the 70s and 80s.

A recent women’s-only meeting held by the charity was fully booked, with 70 females in attendance and 6,800 plus watching on live
