SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Last week was cold, this week is fantastic! Quiet weather continues on the Suncoast to start the workweek. A few cold fronts will approach this week, but none of them will have much effect on the Suncoast. A little more humidity returns with dew points holding in the mid-60s during the week. The higher moisture levels could lead to areas of morning fog during the week ahead.
La Niña conditions have developed in the Pacific. That means cooler ocean temps in the Pacific have returned toward the coast of the Americas. In a La Niña pattern, the cold Polar jet stream typically stays far north of Florida. The northern United States are typically colder and snowier than average, while we bask in the Florida sunshine. Our temps average above normal in a La Niña winter.
