Homecoming at New Mexico State University has always been a time to celebrate our school, tradition, and family. For me, this year’s homecoming is more special; it is a homecoming in every sense of the word. After building a career at Chevron that has taken me across the world, I am back in southern New Mexico, serving the very communities that shaped my life.
My family’s roots run deep here. The Lucero family has called the Mesilla Valley home for generations. My grandmother’s grandfather, Jose R. Lucero, was the sheriff in Doña Ana County immediately following the legendary Pat Garrett. He and my great-uncle Felipe Lucero served back-to-back terms and helped lay the foundation for public service in this region.
