NEW YORK — New York Jets defensive player Kris Boyd was critically wounded in an early morning shooting in New York City on Sunday, according to police.

Officers responded just after 2 a.m. to West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in midtown Manhattan, where a 29-year-old man was found shot in the abdomen, according to a police spokesperson.

The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition, the spokesperson said.

The police did not name the victim, but a law enforcement official with knowledge of the matter identified the man as Boyd.

Meghan Gilmore, a spokesperson for the New York Jets, said in a statement Sunday, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”
