People might see the price of a favorite food staple go up by over 100 percent.
And the reason is one oft-cited these days : taxes .
CBS News reports how the Trump administration is considering a new import tax of 107 percent on 13 of Italy’s largest pasta exporters. This is partially the result of a federal probe that found how some Italian pasta brands — such as La Molisana and Pastificio Lucio Garofalo — were selling their products below U.S. market prices.
This idea was brought forward via a proposal published by the U.S. Commerce Department in September. Should it come to fruition, a new 92 antidumping duty would be placed on these products on top of the existing 15 percent tariff on European Union imports.
