Traffic deaths in the city are at the lowest point in the Vision Zero era, outside of the pandemic year of 2020. But it's not stopping the city’s Department of Transportation from trying to prevent more with a new, powerful ad campaign. And some who have seen it had strong feelings about it.

“It’s brutal, but I think it’s effective,” Laura Vanderlindn said.

“I think it's a very, it's a very powerful commercial," Zach Von Behren added. "You know, it's true. Your life can change in any second if you're not thinking about what you're doing. If you let your mind slip for one second.”

The DOT's new Vision Zero public service campaign depicts a speeding driver running a red light, and then shows the windshield smashing in front of the driver, the driver looking stunned.
