New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and other lawmakers around the state called on the Trump administration Monday to release federal heating assistance funding.
The federal government reopened days ago but state leaders still haven't gotten confirmation of the release of $400 million in federal funds that help low-income New Yorkers pay their utility bills. This comes as the state is seeing temperatures below freezing at times this week.
"Now, if you recall, Donald Trump promised on day one to lower utility bills. He promised a lot of things. That's one stuck in mind. Prices are going to come down, utility bills are going to be lower," Hochul said Monday in Albany. "Instead, they're rising, and this delay in starting a program that's supposed to help people with those utility bills is just cruel
