MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. — A wildfire is now contained in Murray County after it began burning Monday morning on Peeples Lake Road inside the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest .

The fire burned at least 60 acres by 2:45 p.m. when it was fully contained, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission .

The U.S. Forest Service is leading the firefighting effort, with GFC crews helping to contain the fire. USFS air assets are actively conducting water drops, according to Murray County officials.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, Forestry officials told 11Alive.

There is no immediate threat to structures, but officials note that smoke will be visible throughout the Murray County area.

Officials urge residents to avoid the area while firefighting efforts continue.
