1 dead after apartment fire in U.P.

KINGSFORD, MI – One person is dead after a fire at a second-floor apartment that happened over the weekend in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Kingsford Public Safety officers were on patrol around 1:26 a.m. Saturday when they were called to a fire at 229 E. Breitung Ave., WLUC reports. They evacuated the first-floor apartments and began fighting the fire; other agencies assisted.

One victim was found inside the apartment that was ablaze. They were later pronounced dead. Their name has not been released pending notification of family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
