When viewing old properties, it’s wise to expect the unexpected—just like this Reddit user who discovered a trapdoor in the living room of a 1920s house they were touring.

The home, located in North County, California, is described as “an old worn-out mountain cabin.” Reddit user TempusDetective explained that in the middle of the living room floor was a trapdoor.

“We opened it and found a narrow concrete staircase going down into a hidden basement,” they said. “Two of the walls were covered in mirrors, and one wall had a built-in wall fan, an electrical panel, and a heavy metal door.
