KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Dolly Parton was honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Sunday for her humanitarian work.
Parton was presented her Oscar by friend and fellow actor, Lily Tomlin, as part of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy's 16th Governors Awards event in Hollywood. In a video posted to social media, Parton thanked her friend, the academy and her family.
"I grew up in a house with 12 kids," Parton said. "Now that alone teaches you how important sharing is. Don't get me wrong, we didn't have that much to share, but my momma and daddy showed me by example that the more you give, the more blessings come your way and I have tried my whole life to live by their example. And I've been blessed more than I ever thought possible."
