A Maryland couple was shot and killed Sunday afternoon, and the suspect — who police say knew both victims — was arrested hours later after fleeing officers during a pursuit.

Officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department were called shortly before 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 to the 1700 block of Twickenham Road in Pasadena, where they found Jeanna Hayes, 54, and William Hayes, 56, suffering from gunshot wounds, officials said.

Both Pasadena residents were pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.

During the investigation, detectives identified 61-year-old Nottingham resident Anthony Louis Reyes as a suspect “based on information received on the 911 call and through additional investigative means.”

At 6:27 p.m., with help from the Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) program and the Real Time Information Center (RTIC), officers found Reyes’ vehicle near Severn Road and Ridge Road, police said.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Reyes fled, according to investigators. Officers chased the vehicle until the pursuit ended near Quarterfield Road off I-97 in Severn, where the driver was taken into custody.

It was later determined that the Hayeses and Reyes knew each other. Police said they believe the incident was isolated and that it was a targeted attack.

Reyes was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder and related offenses.
