BRAINTREE, Mass. —

A Massachusetts high school student was arrested on campus Monday after being found with a realistic-looking airsoft gun, according to Braintree police.

According to police, a student at Braintree High School told the school resource officer that he saw another student in possession of a handgun.

Braintree police and school staff identified the student, who they described as "cooperative," and found a "realistic-looking airsoft-type pistol in the student's coat."

The student was arrested, and administrative sanctions are pending, police said. The student's name was not released.

"This incident serves as an important reminder of the effectiveness of school safety

protocols and the critical role of collaboration between school staff and law enforcement," police said
