ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association unveiled its 2026 Hall of Fame class, a group that will be enshrined next May. It includes some local flavor from Northwestern Illinois.
Former Aquin High School star Sophie Brunner is the lone player from the area getting inducted in this class. She starred for the Lady Bulldogs, leading them to back-to-back state titles in 2012-'13, before going on to a successful college career at Arizona State and then a few years playing professionally.
The Rock Valley College women's basketball teams from 2015 and 2017 also both get the nod. Misty Opat coached both of those teams, two of her four national titles with the Lady Golden Eagles. Tierra McGowan led the way on the 2017 team, earning NJCAA DIII Tournament MVP honors, along with
