AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Augusta Hooters, a longtime Washington Road institution, is nothing but a pile of rubble.

The business closed permanently in late July, and crews started tearing it down Monday.

Its demise follows the demolition earlier this month of much of the Washington Square shopping center .

Hooters’ closure happened just a few months after dozens of other locations closed after the parent company filed for bankruptcy.

But the Augusta location, the perennial golf week hangout of John Daly, survived a litte longer than other locations.

The 42-year-old chain is best known for its all-female wait staff in the iconic white tank tops and orange shorts.

Hooters was obtained by a private equity firm in 2019. It filed for bankruptcy in March 2025.
